Western Disposal is in the transportation business. In 2018 our vehicles logged over 1.3 million miles on the road, which is equivalent to driving more than 52 times around the equator. It’s clear that when it comes to environmental impact, fuel is Western’s greatest opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint and directly contribute to cleaner air right here in our community.
In 2010, we built a natural gas fueling station at our facility and began replacing our older diesel collection vehicles with models powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). Each CNG truck emits approximately 15 fewer metric tons of carbon dioxide than its diesel equivalent. As of the end of 2018, we have forty-seven trucks – that’s 78% of our collection fleet – running on this clean burning fuel!
