Composting is a practice whose time has come. According to the EPA, 28% of the waste we generate consists of organic material, i.e. yard and food waste, virtually all of which is compostable. In the landfill, organic material decomposes anaerobically (without oxygen) producing methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Conversely, the aerobic decomposition characterized by a properly operated composting process generates little methane and a valuable, marketable product to boot!
