“I don’t really throw much away…”
Sadly, a lot of us do. In fact, the average American tosses 4.38 pounds. Per person. Per day.
That’s 60 percent more than in 1960. Of course, we inhabit a completely different world. Our global economy depends on sturdy packaging to survive shipping around the world, our fast-paced lives call for take-out, frozen dinners and fast food and technology delivers the next “must have” in a matter of months rather than years.
We can’t turn back the clock, so we must shift our behavior. Simply by being thoughtful about our consumption, practical about our discards and working together to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost as much as possible, we can work together to make a powerful, immediate and lasting impact.
