It will be no surprise to readers that due to the rapid pace of technology and burgeoning consumer demand, electronic waste is now the world’s fastest growing waste stream. Most electronic devices reach the end of their useful life after only a year or two, and in many households the need to responsibly dispose of electronics has become an annual event.
Due in part to the presence of harmful heavy metals in electronic waste, Colorado Senate Bill 12-133 banned electronic waste from landfills in 2013 Electronics recycling is now required in the state of Colorado and must be taken to special collection facilities or events. Disassembly and recycling by a certified entity is critical to protect public health and the environment.
With the recent opening of our Materials Management Center, located at 2051 63rd St., Western is pleased to announce we will now be accepting electronic waste and small household appliances for recycling. Material will be sent for processing to E-Stewards Certified® Blue Star Recycling, co-located at EcoCycle’s CHaRM Center.
Electronic waste and other hard to recycle materials can also be collected curbside through Western’s convenient Recycle Express service.
Additional items that can now be dropped off for recycling at the Materials Management Center include mattresses, box springs, appliances, tires and scrap metal.
On-demand document shredding is also available.
