#1 – RINSE! Soapy, sticky, bubbly, oily; it all spells “mess” at the Recycling Center. Please be respectful of the recycling facility and its workers and rinse containers thoroughly!
#2 – No Squeeze Tubes: Lotion and toothpaste tubes go in the trash.
#3 – Pump Tops: Glass and plastic pump bases are recyclable, but the pump tops themselves should be removed before recycling. They contain a metal spring mechanism that is problematic for recyclers.
#4 – Plastic bottles with rigid tops: These include containers for liquid soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc.; these containers can be recycled.
#5 – Empty prescription bottles: Recyclable!
#6 – Small plastic items: Loose lids/caps and any plastic containers smaller than 2” can’t be sorted effectively and should be put in the trash.
#7 – Blister packs: Think packaging for toothbrushes, hair pins, cosmetics and nail clippers. The paperboard backing can be recycled but there is currently no market for the flimsy, thermoformed plastic. These need to go in the trash.
#8 – Toothbrushes and Dental Floss containers: The Boulder County Recycling Center cannot accept these items for recycling. However, if you’re willing to put in some extra effort by mailing in or dropping off material, check out the Preserve® Products Gimme 5 recycling program
