Trash collection: Trash service is sold in 32-gallon units with carts provided by Western available in 32, 64, or 96-gallon sizes. Rates are based on cart size. Trash is collected every week.
If you do not generate enough trash to fill a 32-gallon cart each week, Western offers another option:
- Prepaid bags. The cost of collecting these bags whenever they are set out is included in their purchase price. If you put out no more than two of the bags per month, you can save money compared to subscribing for regularly scheduled service. As with regularly scheduled service, Western will supply you with recycling carts and will collect the recyclables bi-weekly. There is a monthly charge for the recyclables and compostables collection in addition to the cost of the prepaid trash bags.
Recyclables Collection: Unlimited single-stream recyclables collection is included in the cost of the trash service you select. You select the cart size that works best for you. If you need more than one cart for your recyclables, there is a charge of $1.00 per month for each additional cart. Recyclables are collected every other week. The City assesses a “trash tax” based upon the level of trash service residents select, making it even more desirable to recycle as much material as possible.
Compostables Collection: 32 gallons of compostables (yard waste and plant-based food scraps) plus bundled branches (maximum bundle weight: 35 pounds; maximum individual branch thickness: 6 inches; maximum bundle size: 3 feet around by 6 feet long). We will collect bundles free-of-charge unless, when stacked, the measurement of all the bundles exceeds 9 feet high by 6 feet long by 3 feet wide. Three bags of leaves (leaves only, no grass or other plant material) in compostable bags are also included with your trash service. You may buy additional compostables collection services and use a 64- or 96-gallon cart, or order additional compostables carts, for a fee. The cost for each additional 32 gallons of service is about 40% of the cost of additional trash service. Compostables are collected every other week.
