Lower Amount of Trash

There is an additional charge for each extra bag of trash that does not fit into your cart with the lid closed. If you regularly have extra trash, you may want to increase your level of service.

Tips for Reducing Your Trash
  • Increase recycling. Before throwing an item out, check to see if it is recyclable. There is no limit to the amount of material you can set out for collection in a cart.

  • By simply typing in your zip code, the Earth 911 Recycling Hotline helps you locate recycling centers “for all types of recyclables” in your community: go to earth911.com.

  • Compost yard and food waste

  • Compost yard and food waste
    • At home
    • Put it in your compostables cart if this service is offered in your area
    • Bring it to our Trash and Recycle Center

Yard waste creates methane gas in landfills but, if composted, provides nutrients for plants and soil. Food scraps can be recycled by composting them, creating a natural product to feed plants and trees.

  • Prevent waste
  • Before you buy, use or discard an item, ask yourself the following 4 Rs:

Reduce:             Is there a similar product with less packaging?
Reuse:              Can the product be used again?
Recycle:            Can the product be recycled?
Buy recycled:    Was the product made from recycled materials?
